What Is Covered Your health insurance will cover most of your hospital expenses. The amount covered may vary depending on your health insurance cover. Hospital expenses include bed and operatiing theatre charges, in-patient physiotherapy, and the cost of your Orthopaedic Prosthesis implants. Some health funds have introduced a "Gap" payment for Surgical implants, you should ask your surgeon about this if you have any concerns. Operation Costs The Waverley Orthopaedic Clinic charges an up front "Gap" or "Out of pocket" fee as a booking fee to confirm your request to proceed to a proposed operation, before staff organise your hospital booking, admission details, and book your operating theatre time, anaesthetist and assistant surgeon, and prosthesis components and additional equipment and supplies. The balance of your account is then billed directly to most health funds using the "No Gap" scheme . This may not apply to all funds. Other Expenses There will be other doctors to pay: e.g. the Anaesthetist, and the Surgical Assistant. You will find that they generally use the "No Gap" scheme , and will bill most accounts directly to your Health Insurance Fund. You may have "Out of Pocket" or "Gap" charges, and will need to check this with individual doctors. There may also be incidental fees to Pathology and Radiology, and a specialist physician, if medical assistance is required during your post-operative recovery. Uninsured (Self-Insured) Patients If you do not have Private Health Insurance, a quote will be obtained for you from all parties concerned. If you decide to proceed to an operation after receiving your quote, pre-payment of all your doctor's and hospital fees will be requested.
